Boyz II Men are heading to Nashville. The legendary vocal group has signed to Warner Records Nashville and is gearing up to release its first country album next year, in 2027, a bold new chapter that fans are already calling the group's "Cowboyz II Men" era.
The move makes sense for a group built on harmony and storytelling. Boyz II Men formed in 1985, with Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Michael McCary in the original lineup. McCary left the group in 2003 due to health issues, leaving the trio that continues to perform today. They rose to prominence in the early 1990s with soulful ballads and smooth, interlocking harmonies that became their signature sound.
That sound carried them around the world. The Grammy-winning group has sold more than 60 million records worldwide and won four Grammy Awards, a record that places them among the most successful R&B groups of all time. Their songs defined an era of slow jams and wedding playlists, and their influence can still be heard in the vocal groups and solo singers who followed them.
Shawn Stockman said the timing felt right for a country turn. "We love the genre so much, and at this point in our career we felt like it was the perfect time to dip our toes," he said, adding that the group has "always been enamored with the storytelling component of country music." For singers known for turning a lyric into a feeling, that focus on story is a natural fit.
Nathan Morris stressed that country is not entirely new territory for the group. They performed at the Grand Ole Opry in 2018, sang with Brett Young in 2019, and performed with Cody Johnson at Stagecoach earlier this year. "R&B is the root of who we are," he said, but country melodies, meanings, and feelings feel similar, "almost like we feel at home."
That comfort could be the key to the new album. Country and R&B share a deep love of melody, emotion, and plainspoken lyrics about love, loss, and everyday life. Boyz II Men built a career on those same qualities, and Nashville gives them a new stage to explore them. If the group's harmonies translate as well as expected, the 2027 album could introduce them to a whole new audience while giving longtime fans a fresh way to hear voices they have loved for decades.
For now, details such as a title and track list have not been announced, but the direction is clear: Boyz II Men are not leaving R&B behind. They are widening the circle, bringing their classic sound to country music and inviting Nashville listeners into a story that began in Philadelphia more than 40 years ago.
